William Katz: Urgent Agenda

GEORGIA – AT 2:35 P.M. ET: WELL, THAT'S HOW I BEGAN THE POST I WAS GOING TO PUT UP THREE HOURS AGO. THEN I TURNED ON THE TV. I don't have to tell you what's been happening in Washington. A large group of presumed Trump supporters – although I wonder about the actual identity of some of those dudes – broke into the US Capitol and held a private riot. It is completely unacceptable. There are no excuses. Leading Republicans have thoroughly denounced this obscenity. While the president is being blamed by the usual suspects for provoking the rioters in a speech earlier today, he did nothing of the kind. The fools did this themselves. And what they did must not be tolerated. But here's the rub: The behavior of the press has been more than obnoxious. I've never seen such pompous, self-righteous reporting. The Trump haters are having their day. I've tried to monitor all the major sources, and they're basically the same. Why, did you ever believe this could happen in this great nation? We cry out for law and order. There has never been anything like this in the whole history of the world! Maybe the Universe! In fact, we've just had a year of violence that has torn apart many of our cities, destroying businesses that often had been built up by minority citizens. We've seen statues ripped down, windows shattered, police assaulted, and crime rates skyrocket. And many of these same reporters, those who today wept for America, did everything they could to "understand" the "mostly peaceful protesters." One could almost get sick over their hypocrisy. Indeed, I didn't hear a single reporter today refer to the violence of 2020. Question: What happens the next time there's a riot in a big city? What will these same frauds say, and report? What happens when the next crime figures are issued, showing that Democrat-run cities are turning into killing fields...with blacks the majority of the victims? Will the journalistic corruptionists blame "the legacy of Donald Trump"? No doubt some will. It's hard to escape the party line. The irony is that the press may come out of today as the big loser, especially if reporters report future violence in their usual, leftist manner. More mature journalists, and there are some left, will know that the public will instinctively compare what they say about some future violence with what they're saying today, when they can blame the right. The public is smarter than journalists thinks, and has a long memory. Oh, by the way, Fox has now called Jon Ossoff as the winner in the second of the Senate runoffs in Georgia. The first was called last night for Democrat Raphael Warnock. It is a clean sweep for radical Democrats in a moderate state. More about that later. January 6, 2021 |
